Sulfadoxine + Pyrimethamine Tablets
The combination of Sulfadoxine and Pyrimethamine is used to treatmalaria. Sulfadoxine and Pyrimethamine is usually given when otherantimalarial medications may not be as effective in treatment or prevention.
Sulfadoxine and Pyrimethamine Tablets are antifolates. They inhibit the production of enzymes involved in the synthesis of folic acid within the parasites. Either drug by itself is only moderately effective in treatingmalaria, because the parasite Plasmodium falciparum may be able to use exogenous folic acid, while in combination, the two substances have a synergistic effect which outbalances that ability.
Sulfadoxine is a sulfa drug that fights bacteria in the body.
Pyrimethamine is an Antiparasitic drug. It prevents the growth and reproduction of parasites.
